It’s a pleasure-and an honor-to welcome Dr Nada Logan Stotland to our Editorial Board.

Many of you may know Dr Stotland as a former President of the APA. She has a long-standing interest in women’s mental health and in the psychological aspects of women’s reproductive health-and has long been an outspoken proponent of women’s reproductive rights.

Dr Stotland earned her MD degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine, where she became Director of Psychiatric Consultation-Liaison Service and Director of Psychiatric Education. She later served as Medical Coordinator for the Illinois Department of Mental Health, and she subsequently became Chair of Psychiatry at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. She now holds professorships in the departments of psychiatry and obstetrics and gynecology at Rush Medical College of Rush University in Chicago.

Dr Stotland is also a graduate of the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis and the Master of Public Health program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has held leadership positions in (among other organizations) the North American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Society for Women’s Health Research. She’s currently Secretary of the APA senior members-the “Lifers.” She’s now also Secretary of the Women’s Mental Health Section and Co-chair of the Psychosomatic Medicine section of the World Psychiatric Association.

She has written or edited 9 books, 2 dozen book chapters, and over 75 peer-reviewed articles, and is the recipient of the Francis Braceland and Alexandra Symonds awards of the APA, as well as the Lila Wallis Award of the American Medical Women’s Association. She continues to play a leading role in public education about psychiatric issues.

Dr Stotland and her husband, Harold, will celebrate their 50th anniversary next year. They have 4 daughters and 4 grandchildren.

Dr Stotland joins a distinguished group of psychiatrists whose names grace our masthead (please see page 8 of the July 2012 issue). However, our Board members are far more than figureheads. Each plays an active role in making sure the editorial content we bring to you in these pages-and on our Web site-keeps you up-to-date with the big-picture issues and provides you with information you can really use in your practice. We hope you like what you’ve been reading.

Welcome, Dr Stotland-and thank you Editorial Board members.
