An update from a patient we learned about a year ago.
Our Psychiatry & Society video series is taking a short break. For now, enjoy this rerun with additional new commentary.
Last year, on March 30, 2022, we posted a generous interview I did of Nancy Alterman, titled “Heroic Journey to Recovery: A Patient’s Story,” which discussed the crucial role of ECT in the treatment of her disabling bipolar disorder. We recently checked how she is doing and she responded:
“Wow! I can’t believe it has already been a year!! I am grateful to report that all is well. I am keeping up with my sporting ways and am flourishing with my art work. I had a show at a non-profit restaurant and sold 35 pieces! Most recently I had 5 pieces accepted in a show for a new nonprofit - Integrated Artists for Mental Health. :-)
I’m thinking of how to put together a photo essay of my journey and speak to med students, mental health organizations, and anyone who will listen!"
