More psychiatrists than any other medical specialty are needed-this in the face of major doctor shortages and fewer students pursuing psychiatry as a career. With an almost 50/50 split between psychiatrists under and over age 55 years, it is no surprise that psychiatry is among the top 5 physician searches by medical specialty.
